MITACS Elevate is a pilot program designed to ensure that PhD holders, among the most highly-skilled individuals in Canada, are retained and equipped for future careers. The academic supervisors must hold a regular tenure-track position at a university in Southern Ontario and be eligible to hold Tri-Council funding. Industry funds must be sent directly to MITACS prior to the commencement of the fellowship. Note that preference will be given to partners that act as for-profit companies including crown corporations. Governmental agencies are not eligible partners, but arms-length organizations such as hospitals are eligible.

Application Details: Each fellowship is tenable for a one-year term, renewable for one additional year. Fellows will hold a PhD from a recognized degree-granting institution and either be residents of Ontario or citizens/permanent residents of Canada planning to move to Ontario. There are two programs under Elevate: 1) The Industrial Fellowships Program (IFP) is designed for PhD holders in any academic discipline who have an established collaboration with an Ontario-based non-academic partner in an Ontario priority sector. 2) The MITACS Strategic Fellowships Program (SFP) is designed for PhD holders any academic discipline who may not have a collaboration established with an Ontario based-partner in a sector of strategic priority but are interested in establishing such connections during their fellowship. All proposals and CVs should be submitted electronically no later than November 1st, 2010.
