Description:

The Fellowships are awarded to enhance the career development of outstanding and highly promising university faculty who are earning a strong international reputation for original research. Every year, NSERC awards up to six Steacie Fellowships that are held for a two-year period. Successful fellows are relieved of teaching and administrative duties, so that they can devote all their time and energy to research. The Fellowships are held at a Canadian university or affiliated research institution. The Fellowship will go towards relief of teaching or administrative responsibilities, or to enhance the research environment of the fellow's department. Candidates should have obtained their doctorate within the last 12 years and hold a grant from NSERC.

** PLEASE NOTE :: If your faculty is planning to submit a nomination for this year's competition, please submit application to Julaine Hall[julaine.hall@uwo.ca] . The University's Core Planning Group will review and select the six nominations going forward. **

Application Details:

In recognition of the award's prestige and the increased time available for research, fellows who currently hold an NSERC Discovery Grant will be invited to submit a request for supplemental support during the tenure of the Fellowship. Candidates may not apply on their own behalf. They must be nominated by senior members of the Canadian science and engineering community, and the nominations must be endorsed by the executive head of the candidate's university.

Nomination material should conform to NSERC presentation standards, as described in the How to Complete Form 100 Instructions. When completing Form 100 to apply for a Steacie Fellowship, follow the guidelines except that: a) contributions do not need to be limited to those in the last six years; and b) there is no page limit. Referees should not be members of the nominee's university, former professors or supervisors, or present or former collaborators or colleagues. NSERC also seeks the advice of referees other than those suggested in the nomination. Participants are encouraged to prepare and submit the nomination material electronically, preferably in PDF format.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT LEVIED ON THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
