The object of the Developmental Services (DS) Research Grant Fund is to support research and innovative initiatives specifically for the Developmental Services sector. The Fund has been set aside to support knowledge enhancement across the Developmental Services Sector. The Fund will provide a maximum of $400,000 across all funded projects each of two years to support research in priority areas.

The research topics for 2015: Funding approaches and practices: Understanding the advantages and disadvantages of direct/flexible/self-directed social funding versus indirect or agency-based funding, as well as barriers and enablers (legislation, regulation, or professional guidelines) of implementing a successful direct funding system; Study of the developmental services system in Ontario, including for users, funders, and those who deliver services, with respect to its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges to implement direct/flexible/self-directed funding approaches. Service models for complex needs clients: Understanding the evolving support needs of relevant client groups (e.g., persons with secondary diagnoses, persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder) as they age, including both residential and at-home/community services; Identifying best practices in system navigation practices and tools. Employment: Identifying best practices for employing/finding employment for persons with a disability in general and persons with developmental disability in particular.

Application Details:

The intent of the fund is to support improvements in developmental services. Applicants may be researchers from academic or community-based institutions. Collaborative research projects between community and academic partners are encouraged.

All proposals must be submitted electronically to Georgina.Archbold@ontario.ca by 12:00pm on July 27, 2015. Late proposals will not be accepted. THE GRANT WILL COVER OVERHEAD COSTS UP TO 20%

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
