Description:

AUCC recently signed an agreement with IDRC for the management of the CAREG program. As part of this two-year pilot, IDRC aims to fund 7-8 grants worth a maximum of $40,000 each to support short-term exchanges between Canadian and African universities and research institutes that address IDRC research themes. Partner institutions are expected to contribute at least one-third of the total cost of the project as part of CAREG?s cost-sharing requirements. Applications must be developed jointly by the African and Canadian partner institutions and they must demonstrate that the proposed research and training activities contribute to the CAREG program?s objectives and expected results

Applications must be developed jointly by the African and Canadian partner institutions and they must demonstrate that the proposed research and training activities contribute to the CAREG program?s objectives and expected results. Support through this program must be cost-shared on a 2:1 ratio by IDRC and the partner institutions, respectively. In other words, partner institutions must make a cash or in-kind contribution to cover at least one-third of the total cost of the project. All partners are expected to contribute.

Application Details:

Successful applicants will have nearly 20 months to implement their project. To ensure sufficient time for substantive research and training to take place, African researchers are required to spend 3-6 months in Canada and Canadian participants are required to spend at least 6 weeks at the African institution.

A hard copy or electronic copy of the application (complete with signatures) must reach AUCC by no later than June 30, 2010 (4 p.m. EST). The application must include all the components outlined in Section 5.0 of these guidelines. An electronic application must be submitted as a single file, preferably in PDF format (multiple files and attachments will not be accepted).

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM.

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
