Description:

The OHTN aims to support the development of HIV researchers in Ontario in order to better respond to the epidemic. Studentship Awards (STU) are designed to encourage individuals to pursue a career in the field of HIV/AIDS and/or research that is relevant to and has impact on the HIV/AIDS field. The OHTN recognizes the need to support a broader range of research, and encourages students from the interpretive/critical social sciences, humanities, and other fields to apply to this request for applications. The OHTN also strongly encourages applications from students conducting community-based research (CBR), multidisciplinary or transdisciplinary research.

Please note that the OHTN is aware that barriers exist for students to fully involve the community in their research. As such, students are encouraged to summarize their involvement with the general public, community groups, and the scientific community in promoting HIV research, prevention and quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS. Special consideration should be given to community engagement criteria as outlined in the General Program Information and Guidelines. Community engagement is an essential component of the OHTN process. Failure to comply may result in proposals being rejected.

Application Details:

Candidates for Studentship Awards (STU) must be registered full-time graduate students, conducting HIV-related research leading to a Masters Degree, Ph.D. degree (or equivalent), or a combined health professional/Ph.D. degree. Candidates must have completed sufficient academic work to be admitted in full standing to graduate school by the time the award is to take effect, or be already engaged in a Masters, Ph.D. or combined health professional/Ph.D. program. Candidates proposing to undertake a qualifying year for admission to graduate school are not eligible to apply, nor are individuals planning to proceed solely to a health professional degree.

Please see Sponsor Guidelines for detailed instructions on accessing and completing the online application forms. Print one (1) copy of your electronic Application before you submit it online. You will need to submit all application-related documents in one (1) original hard copy as well as submitting it online. Please include a copy of the electronic application form with the hard copy of the application by clicking on and printing the "Printer Friendly Version" once the form is complete. The original copy must show original (or faxed) signatures and should not be stapled.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM.

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
