Description:

The Ontario Genomics Institute?s (OGI?s) Summer Research Fellowships offer undergraduate students a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful, real-life research in genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, or GE?LS (ethical, economic, environmental, legal, and/or social issues relating to genomics and proteomics research). They form part of OGI?s efforts to build the future of genomics in Ontario.

The Summer Research Fellowship is for $5,000. A travel allowance will also be available to students (and supervisors) outside the Greater Toronto Area to offset the costs of attending fellowship events. OGI strongly recommends that universities support these outstanding students by using other sources to increase the award. They may also provide fringe benefits, such as vacations and medical insurance.

Application Details:

To be eligible for an OGI Summer Research Fellowship, students must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at a university in Ontario, Canada. Applicants must be undergraduate students completing their 1st, 2nd or 3rd year at university, demonstrating a serious interest in the area they wish to research. The candidate must have obtained over the previous years of study a cumulative average of at least a B+, as defined by your university. Applicants will need to find an appropriate person who is active in genomics-related research and is willing to act as their supervisor for the summer.

A complete application includes: 1. OGI Summer Research Fellowship application, completed and signed; 2. Research Proposal, written by the student with guidance from the supervisor; 3. Supervisor?s Recommendation; 4. Two additional academic recommendations; 5. Official Transcript(s) All recommendations and transcripts must be submitted to OGI in sealed envelopes signed across the flap; either accompanying the completed application or mailed separately.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM.

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
