Sponsor's: Dec 15, 2009

Subject Areas: Retinitis Pigmentosa, Pathogenesis, Retina, Macular Degeneration
Description:

The Foundation Fighting Blindness - Canada (FFB-C) annually awards grants supporting research into retinal function and its disorders. The objective of The Foundation Fighting Blindness - Canada is to support research into the origin, detection, prevention, treatment and cure of retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration and related blinding retinal diseases.

A Letter of Intent is required in order to determine the suitability of projects for funding by the Foundation Fighting Blindness, at a stage preceding the submission and review of full grant applications. The LOI will be evaluated by the Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) in consultation with the Director of Research Programs and, as needed, with members of the SAB. Evaluation of the LOI will be based primarily on the relevance of the research question to the objectives of the FFB. f the LOI is accepted, applicants will be notified of acceptance and invited to submit full grant applications at least 2 months in advance of the final grant application deadline. If the LOI is not accepted, applicants will be notified and provided with a brief explanation of the reason(s) for non-acceptance.

Application Details:

First priority will be given to projects in which these objectives are approached directly, using any appropriate methodology (cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, etc.). Basic research not directly related to RP, macular degeneration or related retinal disorder will be supported only if the applicant provides clear and reasonable justification for its relevance.

Only successful LOIs will be invited to complete a full application. One original LOI, in PDF format, must be received by the FFB no later than 4:00 p.m. (EST) on December 15, 2009. Submit electronically to: Harry Veening, Administrator, The Foundation Fighting Blindness [hveening@ffb.ca]

IDC POLICY HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED FOR THIS PROGRAM.

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
