Sponsor/Award: CANADIAN BREAST CANCER RESEARCH ALLIANCE - DEVELOPMENTAL AND EXPLORATORY (DEX) GRANT - 2009 FALL COMPETITION

Grant Amount: UP TO $65,000 FOR ONE YEAR
Deadline: Dean's: Oct 18, 2009
Internal: Oct 25, 2009
Sponsor's: Nov 01, 2009

Subject Areas: Health Services, Quality Of Life, Breast Cancer, Psychosocial, Legal Issues, Ethical Issues, Behavioural Research
Description:

DEX grants will support innovative exploratory projects or pilot studies in the areas of behavioural, health services, legal/ethical/social/policy and psychosocial research that has the potential to improve breast cancer control or quality of life. Applications are invited from all sectors of the breast cancer care or research continuum, from community-based groups to established researchers.

DEX grants will support small-scale short-term pilot studies or investigation of concepts to permit the investigator to explore or test out new ideas or research methods. The expectation is that these ideas or methods, once explored, will lead to the development of operating grant proposals. It is not the intent of the program to provide supplemental, add-on funding in support of existing, ongoing investigations or quality assurance projects. It is intended that the DEX grants may precede, not replace, application to the regular CBCRA or CBCRA/CIHR operating grant competitions.

Application Details:

The purpose of the DEX grants program is to expand the scope of breast cancer research in the areas of behavioural, health services, policy-oriented and psychosocial realms. These research proposals may encompass new, unique or unusual approaches to the study of these aspects of breast cancer or the development of new research methods.

The proposal will be ranked higher if the results are likely to lead to the development of a proposal to be submitted to a regular CBCRA or CBCRA/CIHR competition. Applications should generate or translate knowledge in the areas of behavioural, psychosocial, health services or ethical/legal/social/policy issues with the potential for preventing breast cancer, improving survival and enhancing quality of life. One original copy with original signatures, and 10 complete photocopies, must be submitted by the Sponsor deadline.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM.

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
