Sponsor's: Oct 01, 2009

Description:

Expedited Knowledge Synthesis is a component of CIHR's Evidence on Tap program. The objective of Evidence on Tap is to produce high-quality, timely, and accessible evidence that is of immediate interest and use to provincial/territorial decision makers. Expedited Knowledge Synthesis is a two-year pilot that accelerates all phases of synthesis production ? application, review, research, knowledge translation ? to offer timely, accessible and relevant evidence to ministry-level decision makers. This funding opportunity will support teams of researchers to conduct expedited knowledge syntheses on topics identified by decision makers in the health ministries of three participating pilot provinces: New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan. It is expected that this targeted investment will support the use of synthesized evidence in decision-making in each of the three provinces and increased linkages between researchers and decision makers.

Expedited Knowledge Synthesis aims to deliver a synthesis and workshop within 9 months of each province's participating decision makers identifying a priority topic. The syntheses produced through this initiative should be of the highest possible quality and will add to the growing international library of synthesized evidence; the workshops will assist decision makers in adapting and applying the findings. Expedited Knowledge Synthesis uses a two-stage application process. Stage 1: Evidence on Tap Qualified Research Teams Teams of researchers apply to become members of the pool of Evidence on Tap Qualified Research Teams. Applicants successful in Stage 1 become eligible to submit proposals in response to the priorities identified by health-ministry decision makers for Stage 2. Stage 2: Expedited Knowledge Synthesis Proposals CIHR will work together with decision makers from each of the three pilot provinces to identify priority synthesis topics. These topics will be provided to the Evidence on Tap Qualified Research Teams, who will then have four weeks to prepare a proposal. Stage 2 will be run twice to give decision makers the opportunity to refresh their priorities. All Evidence on Tap Qualified Research Teams will be eligible to apply to both rounds.

Application Details:

Successful teams will have six months to complete their syntheses and hold a workshop to assist decision makers in the interpretation and contextualization of the findings. Expedited Knowledge Synthesis uses all of the characteristics of a standard CIHR funding opportunity, but several innovations have been introduced to allow a quick response to the knowledge needs of decision makers. As this is a novel program we encourage applicants to review all sections of this funding opportunity carefully.

This Opportunity is for STAGE 2: ROUND 2. Relevant research areas for Stage 2 will arise from the priority needs of participating decision makers. CIHR staff will work with the participating decision makers to identify the research topics, which will be provided to successful Stage 1 applicants. Selected applicants will be invited to submit an application by the deadline date. Eligibility criteria for all CIHR research funding programs apply. This funding opportunity requires the use of CIHR Web Forms to apply for funding. Send the completed application package (original plus 8 copies) by courier to: RE: "Evidence on Tap: Expedited Knowledge Synthesis" Canadian Institutes of Health Research ?
