Description:

The CIHR Catalyst Grant program provides seed money, on a short-term basis, to support health research activities which represent a first step towards the pursuit of more comprehensive funding opportunities.

This purpose of this Catalyst Grant: Psychosocial Issues Related to Assisted Human Reproduction is to encourage and stimulate new and established investigators to undertake research on psychosocial issues related to assisted human reproduction (AHR). The term 'psychosocial' refers to phenomena that have both psychological and social factors; these two aspects are integrally linked. AHR is any activity undertaken for the purpose of facilitating human reproduction through assisted means. Examples include gamete retrieval, in vitro fertilization (IVF), donor insemination, intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), intrauterine insemination (IUI) and cryopreservation (freezing) of gametes and in vitro embryos.

Application Details:

Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) will not be considered through this program. For projects of a high risk nature, the potential for great scientific gain should offset the risk of failure. There should be minimal or no overlap with other funded work.

Although not to be used as strict eligibility requirements, this funding opportunity aims to promote the following: * New investigators are encouraged to apply; * Clinician researchers with an academic or research appointment are encouraged to apply; * Established investigators are encouraged to include postdoctoral fellows as collaborators; * Investigators in other fields of study who wish to explore applications relevant to psychosocial issues related to AHR are encouraged to apply. Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) will not be considered under this funding opportunity.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures).
