Description:

The discovery grants program has been established to encourage new basic research focused on identifying causes of or treatments for ALS. The spirit of this program is ?high risk/potentially high payoff.? In general, the conditions of the grants will follow TriCouncil Guidelines for eligibility, research ethics, eligibility of expenses, and financial administration.

The ALS Society of Canada is seeking applications from: An established investigator(s) proposing a novel research approach, supported by a sound rationale for the project, and little, but highly promising, preliminary data. From a newly established independent investigator presenting a novel research project with sound rationale, but not necessarily preliminary data. Multiple investigators presenting a novel research approach based on the formation of a multi-disciplinary or multi-institutional team.

Application Details:

The Principal Applicant (PI) must be an independent researcher who has a PhD or equivalent, or a health professional degree (M.D.) with relevant postdoctoral research training. Clinical researchers should have completed residency training which includes research experience. The PI must hold an academic position at a qualifying Canadian Institution

Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m EST, October 16, 2009. All documents pertaining to the submission must be captured in one pdf file. NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures).
