This program provides an opportunity for researchers, who received a 4A rating from either the SSHRC Insight or Insight Development competitions, to initiate the research proposed in their application and to prepare an even stronger application for either of the next two rounds of SSHRC competitions.
To be eligible to receive Reapplication Assistance funding, the researcher must as the principal investigator: receive a 4A rating in the recent SSHRC Insight or Insight Development competitions, be in the employ of Western and continue to be for at least 12 months after award, not have existing funding for the same project, and plan to resubmit to the SSHRC Insight or Insight Development competitions within 24 months. Also, the researcher must have submitted an Internal Peer Review Confirmation Form by the posted deadline (see below). Offer letters are distributed 4 to 6 weeks after SSHRC results are received on 4A status researchers. This award can be given only twice in a researcher’s career at Western.
Applicants wishing to be considered eligible for the SSHRC 4A Re-Application Assistance Program are required to show confirmation of an internal peer review of their grant prior to the SSHRC Insight or Insight Development deadlines.
Internal peer review is a powerful tool that Research Services recommends all applicants pursue to gain a competitive edge prior to any grant funding competition. Although internal review will not be mandatory for application to the Insight or Insight Development competitions, it is part of the eligibility requirements for receiving additional internal application assistance.
Some faculties and departments already have processes in place for internal peer review. The Associate Dean of Research in each faculty may determine how they will administer their own peer review program. Please note that completed and signed Peer Review Forms must be submitted to internalgrants@uwo.ca or to RD&S at SSB 5150 by the posted deadline.
