Academic Development Fund - Major & *Small Grants

The ADF New Research and Scholarly Initiative Awards are intended to support research initiatives for individuals, disciplinary teams and cross disciplinary and inter-disciplinary teams. Applications for both the Major and Small Grant competitions are invited from faculty of all disciplines.  Please contact your Faculty or Research Development & Services for details.

Effective July 1, 2010, the Academic Development Fund program has been transferred from the Secretariat's office to Western's Research Development & Services office.

Major Grants Competition

The purpose of the New Research and Scholarly Initiative Awards for Major Grants is to promote the academic development of the University by assisting with the start-up and transition costs associated with innovative academic development projects. The Major Grant competitions are intended to support Special Projects and are not for the support or maintenance of existing or ongoing programs.

Results Available Around May 1

APPLICATION

PROCESS

  • Internal program applications are to be processed through Research Development & Services, and are to be accompanied by a completed ROLA Proposal. If you require assistance with ROLA, please contact the Help Desk at rolahelp@uwo.ca or call ext. 83136.

Indirect costs are not supported by this program.

REPORT

  • Final Report - due no later than 6 months after grant termination.

Small Grants Competition 

The New Research and Scholarly Initiative Awards for Small Grants are funded jointly by the Academic Development Fund and the Research Promotion Fund and are intended to support the cost of research projects of modest scope. These awards include seed money, one-time requests and projects of short duration.

Spring: Dean's Deadline March 1
  RDS Deadline March 15
Results Available Before July 1
Fall: Dean's Deadline October 1
  RDS Deadline October 15
Results Available Around January 1
