Bio

Dr. Roberto Schaeffer teaches and conducts research in the Energy Planning Program (PPE), Coordination for Postgraduate Programs in Engineering (COPPE), Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil, where he is currently an associate professor in Energy Economics.

Dr. Schaeffer has already supervised more than 70 masters and Ph.D. theses and published more than 100 scientific papers in the fields of energy and the environment. Before taking up his position in the Energy Planning Program, he spent two years as a visiting professor in the Center for Energy and the Environment of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Schaeffer has frequently contributed to reports and assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), including the recent Working Group 3, Fourth Assessment Report on Mitigation(AR4, WG3, 2007), for which he was a lead author.

Currently, he is a member of the Methodology Panel on Baseline Emissions and Monitoring of the Clean Development Mechanism of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC CDM Meth. Panel), and associate editor of two international scientific journals: Energy: The International Journal and Climate Policy.
