Lucio Kowarick

 

Bio

Dr. Lucio Kowarick is a prominent Brazilian urban sociologist. His research focuses on social movements in the city, citizenship and marginality, risk and vulnerability of urban populations, and social exclusion. He has written or edited nine books on development, poverty, and social struggles in São Paulo, South America’s largest city. His English publications include Social Struggles and the City: The Case of São Paulo (1994); The Subjugation of Labour: The Constitution of Capitalism in Brazil (1987); São Paulo: Growth and Poverty (1978).
