The article below was posted to this site June 22 , 2006.
The Draft Report of the Strategic Planning Task Force, entitled Engaging
the Future, has been released. Printed copies were distributed in the June
22 issue of Western News and are also available from the Secretariat's Office, Room 290, Stevenson-Lawson Building. The document is also accessible on my Strategic Plan web site in HTML or PDF format.
The Draft Report builds on our two previous Strategic Plans -- Leadership
in Learning (1995) and Making Choices (2001).
In development since the Strategic Planning Task Force was struck in June
2005, the Draft Report reflects many hours of consultation and discussion
with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and leaders from the London
community. The terms of reference for the Task Force can also be viewed
online, along with a list of Task Force members and all those who made
presentations to the Task Force. I wish to thank everyone who made the
time and effort to help us chart Western's future course.
The Task Force has described this document as a "Draft Report" because our
process of consultation is not yet complete. Two townhall meetings - open
to all members of the campus and London communities - have been scheduled
to gather feedback on the directions set out in the Draft Report:
- Tuesday, September 5, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, in Room 3345, Somerville House
- Thursday, September 7, 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, in the McKellar Room, UCC
I encourage all in our community to read the Draft Report and offer
suggestions for its improvement by sending e-mails to the Executive
Secretary to the Committee, Dalin Jameson, at djameson@uwo.ca.
With the inclusion of any revisions approved by the Task Force resulting
from these open townhall meetings or e-mail suggestions, the Draft Report
will be considered by Senate on September 22 and the Board of Governors on
November 22.
Again, I encourage all in our community to read Engaging the Future and to
participate in the dialogue on Western's Strategic Plan at the open
townhall sessions scheduled for September 5 and 7.
Sincerely,

Paul Davenport
President and Vice-Chancellor
