Welcome to new faculty and staff
I wish to extend a warm welcome to the many new faculty and staff colleagues who have joined us over the summer months.
Fifty-four new probationary or tenured faculty joined us on July 1, and another 10 had arrived as of September 1. Of these 64 new scholars, 27 are women, 22 are from outside Canada (the largest group being from the United States), five are Canadians returning from abroad, and 42 are assistant professors.
Meanwhile, another 55 faculty positions are still in competition, and the Board of Governors has provided budget approval subsequent to the release of May’s Provincial Budget that will enable Western to hire into another 60 faculty positions. With the arrival of these new colleagues, Western is making important progress toward reducing our student-to-faculty ratios.
On the staff front, 24 new regular full-time employees have joined Western since July 1, helping to deliver a wide range of services and support for all members of our campus community.
