CAUBO attracts 400 delegates to London
One day following the pageantry and celebration of Convocation, Western welcomed 405 delegates to the national conference of the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO) – the largest number of delegates ever to attend this annual event. The theme for CAUBO 2005 (June 18-21) was “The Art of Business,” providing university leaders from across Canada a forum to share knowledge, creative ideas and imaginative solutions to the challenges faced by all post-secondary institutions. CAUBO events were hosted both on campus and downtown at the Hilton.
Programming covered a wide range of topics, from human resources management and internal audit, to procurement, facilities management and treasury. I had the opportunity to participate on a panel with Brock University President, David Atkinson, and University of Windsor President, Ross Paul on the “Art of University Leadership.” In keeping with the “art of business" theme keynote and plenary speakers included symphony conductor Boris Brott and the Stratford Festival’s Executive Director Antoni Cimolino, who set the stage for delegates’ farewell evening at Stratford on Tuesday.
Overall, the success of this year’s conference, which also attracted record-breaking sponsorship support, was a tribute to Western’s organizing committee, led by Vice-President (Administration) Gitta Kulczycki; Acting AVP of Financial Services, Sharon Farnell; and Controller Carter Scott, along with the help of their outstanding support team.
