Meet the Vice-Provost
Welcome to the Office of the Vice-Provost (Academic Planning, Policy and Faculty), the Office of Faculty Relations and the Office of Recruitment and Retention’s website.
In 1976 I came to the University of Western Ontario as a research associate in the Department of Chemistry, specializing in Organic Photochemistry. I found at Western a community of dedicated researchers, teachers and professional staff. My goal as Vice-Provost is to contribute to continued fulfillment of Western’s strategic objective of being a leading research-intensive University that provides one of the best learning environments for undergraduate and graduate students in Canada.
Within the portfolio of the Vice-Provost (Academic Planning, Policy & Faculty) my staff and I are responsible for developing and implementing the University’s budgetary and operational policy to support academic planning. Also within the portfolio is the Office of Faculty Relations, which has responsibility for negotiation and administration of the Collective Agreements between the University and the faculty and librarians represented by The University of Western Ontario Faculty Association (UWOFA), as well as the agreements on conditions of appointment of clinical faculty. In addition, the portfolio includes the Office of Faculty Recruitment and Retention. This office provides a central resource to academic units as they seek to attract new faculty members and retain our existing outstanding faculty. The Office also provides information to current faculty on matters such as access to childcare, eldercare, schools, parental leaves and other family concerns.
We are proud of our role in facilitating the academic achievements of all members of our University community. We hope that you will find this website of benefit.
