Western Libraries

The University of Western Ontario library system has 7 locations situated throughout campus to meet the information and service needs of Western's students, staff and faculty. 

London Public Library

Central Location: 251 Dundas Street
The London Public Library (LPL) opened the doors to the new central branch in August 2002.  The LPL has 17 locations situated throughout London. 

 

Museums

Banting House National Historic Site

This historic site is "The Birthplace of Insulin" and reminds us of the most important medical discovery of the 20th century.  Discover where Dr. Banting practiced medicine and conceived the idea leading to the discovery of insulin.

Eldon House

This is London's oldest surviving private dwelling built in 1834 by Captain John Harris and inhabited by his descendants until 1959 when it was donated to the City. The home was once the centre of local nineteenth century social life and now has an adjoining interpretative centre and a Victorian garden.  It is operated by Museum London.

Fanshawe Pioneer Village

The village consists of more than 25 buildings, some of which are actual historical structures. It operates a volunteer program with costumed interpreters demonstrating pioneer skills.

Grosvenor Lodge
This Tudor Gothic style house built in 1853, is the London Regional Resource Center for Heritage and the Environment. Administered by the Heritage London Foundation, its resource library is open to member organizations, schools and London area citizens with an interest in heritage and the environment. Grosvenor Lodge is also  home to various environmental and ecological associations.

London Museum of Archaeology
The museum houses a fifteenth century Neutral Indian archaeological site and it offers gallery displays and tours.  On-site excavations operate between May and September

London Regional Children's Museum
This is Canada's first hands-on museum for children.  It has daily activities and events to contribute to children's development by encouraging participation in innovative exhibits and creative programming that invites cultural and scientific exploration of our world, past, present and future.

McIntosh Gallery
Located in the heart of campus, exhibitions and programs are supported by The University of Western Ontario, The Canada Council for the Arts, The Ontario Arts Council, The Government of Ontario through the Ontario Ministry of Culture, Citizenship and Recreation and the Gallery Memberships.  Over a third of approximately 2500 works in the permanent collection are displayed throughout campus and self-guided tours to view these pieces can be found at the McIntosh Gallery website.

Museum London
The complex operates a year-round program of art exhibitions of contemporary and historical art and a community historical museum with a focus on London and the region.  Films, concerts, adult and children's art classes, art tours and summer art/ historical/heritage walking tours, lectures and special events are offered.
