Campus Police Not Hiring At this Time

August 17, 2012 - Campus Police at Western were hiring earlier this year but currently our staffing complement has been filled and there are no vacancies at present. Our earlier recruiting notice is identified below and at such time we commence hiring in the future our advertisement will appear similar to the article below.

 

Campus Police Hiring

Campus Community Police Service is now accepting Special Constable applications.  Campus Police at Western are committed to Employment Equity, welcome diversity in the workplace, and encourages applications from all qualified individuals including women, members of visible minorities, aboriginal persons, and persons with disabilities.  Only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.   

Under the general supervision of a Sergeant, the Special Constable is responsible for security and law enforcement at Western and affiliated university colleges, including enforcement of university regulations on campus. Regular shifts are 12 hours day and night. This is an active, modern, environment where Special Constables respond to emergencies, requests for assistance, traffic control, and enforcement of all breaches of statutes in an appropriate and timely manner.

Salary range currently is $47,531 to $64,700.

In addition, you must:

  • be 21 years of age, minimum
  • Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
  • have no criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted and no criminal charges before the courts
  • post secondary education preferred - College diploma or University degree or Ontario Police College certificate
  • police experience or equivalency preferred
  • Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Constable Selection System certificate (contact Applicant Testing Services at www.applicanttesting.com or 1-800-429-7728 for testing details)
  • valid Ontario driver's license with full driving privileges
  • strong keyboarding and computer skills
  • strong knowledge in security and security systems
  • of good moral character and is trustworthy, tactful, personable, congenial & exercises good judgment
  • be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position, having regard to your own safety and the safety of members of the public        

Selection Process

  1. Review of applications in comparison with standards
  2. First interview is with a Campus Police representative
  3. Second interview is with a panel consisting of the Director of Housing, Police Manager, Supervisor and the Campus Police Director
  4. Invitation to complete an application, resulting from a successful of interview
  5. Complete an authorization for collection of information form
  6. Gather background information - references check, criminal records check, other investigation, psychological testing
  7. Approval by Campus Police
  8. Offer of Employment in writing and collaboration on a start date
  9. Medical
  10. Request for Ministry approval (through London Police)
  11. London Police Services Board appointment
