Ryan PerlusMy name is Ryan Perlus and I am currently a MSc candidate in physiology and pharmacology.  I grew up in Toronto, Ontario and am the youngest of three children to Jon and Donna Perlus.  I have an older brother Miklos and an older sister Haley.  Science has always been the strong suit of my academic career as I took a liking to it in elementary school.  During high school I was heavily involved in sports and was part of the basketball, volleyball, baseball and track-and-field teams.  I did not have the ordinary high school experience as I was a competitive ski racer for both the Ontario and Canadian Ski Teams.  As such, in high school I missed around 100 days of school a year.  Unfortunately, in Canada under our existing system, I was not able to ski race and attend University concurrently.  As such, I took two years off after high school to pursue my ski career.  I enrolled at the University of Western Ontario in 2005 in Kinesiology where I received a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduating I decided to pursue graduate degree in physiology under the supervision of Dr. Frank Beier.  My project focuses on the role of a transcription factor, RORa, in skeletal development and Osteoarthritis.  I have learned a lot during my time in the lab and consider myself lucky to be surrounded by such an intelligent and enjoyable group of people.
