Doctoral Program

The Ph.D. Program in Philosophy provides opportunities for advanced training and research in a wide range of areas, both historical and contemporary. The primary intent of the program is to prepare qualified candidates for academic careers in their areas of specialization.

Students entering the PhD program typically hold an MA in Philosophy, but students with an exceptionally strong record in an undergraduate honours program may be admitted directly to the PhD program. The former do a 4-year program stream, while the latter do a 5-year stream. Both program streams lead to the same degree; however, their coursework requirements (and only those requirements) differ.
