Upon graduating from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1991, Dr. Gillison completed her internship in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. She then trained in oncology at Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Cancer Center and received a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Investigation from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2001. Dr. Gillison was on the faculty of The Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine and Public Health from 2000 through 2009.
