and has a specific interest in Aboriginal people and sport, including
investigations into the power relations that shape Aboriginal involvement in Olympic
Games, and the sporting experiences of Tom Longboat Award recipients. Her
projects have attracted nearly a half million dollars in research funding from
the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, university and government
agencies. Outside of academe, Janice frequently provides leadership and
direction to government and service organizations, including Sport Canada, the
Aboriginal Sport Circle, Athletes CAN, and the Canadian Association for the
Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity, and provides insight and
commentary for media on all Olympic related matters. She is a member of the

Janice
Forsyth is the Director of the International Centre for Olympic Studies at Western, where she is also an Assistant Professor in the
School of Kinesiology, Faculty of Health Sciences. She joined Western in January 2010 from the University of Alberta, where she held a joint appointment
in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation and the Faculty of Native
Studies. Prior to that, she held the position of Assistant Professor/Aboriginal
Scholar in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management at the
University of Manitoba.
