Future Vision
In a word: Life changing. The new Grace W. Donnelly Women’s Health Pavilion at London Health Sciences Centre is the first purposely built Women’s and Children’s facility in Canada and it will be three times the size of current facilities serving London and area. For the first time all services for women; gynaecological, obstetrical and reproductive will be under one roof and an entire wing will be dedicated to Women’s and Children’s Health Research at the Lawson Health Research Institute. Imagine the comfort this will bring to new mothers and their premature babies. Imagine the research synergies that will be fostered with all women’s and children’s specialties located together. Imagine the new discoveries! It will be life changing.
Funding will support our work through:
PURCHASING EQUIPMENT
- More instruments to perform minimally invasive surgery
- Installation of proper fume hoods in the new wet lab
- Create new techniques and training opportunities for outpatient procedures so that some procedures for example can be performed in the outpatient clinics rather than in the operating room
CREATING WORLD CLASS RESEARCH FACILITIES
- Establish a lab for the reproductive and developmental biology unit to allow a specialized and integrated focus on early childhood development by multi-disciplinary specialists
- Endow the Ethics Research Unit
- Create a new lab for the health outcomes unit for researchers and training future scientists
- Supply needed computer workstations
FUELING DEVELOPMENT OF ROBUST DATABASES
- Acquire programming assistance to secure and utilize our women’s health data, which is the most comprehensive in Canada
HIRING RESEARCH PERSONNEL
- Attract the brightest researchers through provision of graduate trainee stipends
- Hire clinical research assistants
DELIVERING PATIENT EDUCATION PROGRAMS
- Prevention is an important part of a comprehensive medical program and thus providing patient education is a critical component of any clinical practice. For example we would like to be able to better educate patients on contraception, hormone therapy, mammogram screening and umbilical cord blood banking so that they can make informed choices.
