Welcome to Graduate Studies at the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University, Canada.
We offer programs of graduate studies leading to the MA, MMus, PhD, and DMA in all aspects of music: musicology, music theory, music education, composition, and performance. We also offer an interdisciplinary MA in Popular Music and Culture jointly with the Faculty of Information and Media Studies. The breadth and flexibility of our graduate programs are a direct consequence of our distinguished faculty, who include nationally and internationally recognized scholars, composers, and performers.
- Our musicology and music theory faculty’s interests and expertise range from traditional historical and theoretical perspectives to diverse, interdisciplinary perspectives informed by cultural studies, media studies, critical theory, gender theory, and literary theory.
- Our music education faculty members are prolific, grant-winning researchers whose interests and expertise include the philosophy, psychology, and sociology of music education.
- Our stylistically diverse, award-winning composition faculty’s commitment to the creation of new music and to the nurturing of talent combine to build a positive environment for the expression of musical ideas in young composers.
