Music Faculty at Ann Arbor Symposium IV: Teaching and Learning Popular Music

At the most recent Ann Arbor Symposium IV: Teaching and Learning Popular Music, Don Wright Faculty of Music had the largest representation per an institution.

Professor Ruth Wright was one of five keynote speakers. Her paper was titled "The long revolution and popular music education: or can popular music education change society?");

Professor Cathy Benedict presented a paper as part of a panel ("Power and Music: It's Only Words") with Elizabeth Gould (University of Toronto) and Lauri Vakeva (Sibleus Academy, Helsinki);

Professor Patrick Schmidt presented a paper ("Popular Music as Educational Policy"); and

Professor Betty Anne Younker served as moderator for the closing summary given by the keynote speakers.

The historical significance of the Ann Arbor Symposia over a span of thirty-five years includes the interdisciplinary focus with topics reflecting current relevancy to the profession.
