Hailing from Montreal, clarinetist Marie Johnson is the second clarinet chair with Orchestra London Canada and a founding member and bass clarinetist with the London-based clarinet quartet, ƒƒourtissimo. Much in demand as an orchestral clarinetist, Marie performs frequently with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Thunder Bay Symphony and Windsor Symphony orchestras and played second and bass clarinet with Orchestre symphonique de Québec for their 2001-02 season. A versatile performer, Marie enjoys a wide variety of musical collaborations. Her prowess as a clarinet soloist was highlighted in recent performances of the Rautavaara Clarinet Concerto with Orchestra London, and the Krommer Concerto for two clarinets with the London Community Orchestra. At Western University she was recently a guest performer with both the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble and she appears on several chamber music programs every year. Her teachers have included Robert Crowley at the University of Montreal (BMus, MMus) and Dieter Klöcker at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany (Aufbaustudium - graduate performance degree). Highly regarded as an inspiring and dedicated teacher, Marie served on the music faculty at Toronto’s Upper Canada College for nine years and she has been a clarinet instructor with Western’s Don Wright Faculty of Music since 2007.
