Jennie Such enjoys a career as a performer, adjudicator and teacher. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from Western University and an ARCM (PG) Diploma in concert studies from the Royal College of Music in London, England.
Jennie’s diverse career spans oratorio, opera, recital and musical theatre. She has sung principal roles with Calgary Opera, Edmonton Opera, Opera Atelier, Pacific Opera Victoria, Opera Ontario, Vancouver Opera, Mirvish Productions, and the Canadian Opera Company.
As an oratorio soloist Jennie has performed throughout Canada as well as in Germany and the U.K. On the concert stage Jennie made her debut with the Vancouver Symphony and the Vancouver Chamber Choir in Brahms’ Ein Deutches Requiem for which the Globe and Mail wrote: “Such sang “Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit” with melting beauty of tone, her silvery instrument powerfully and movingly conveying the aria’s warmth and sublime tenderness.”
Her live performances have been broadcast on CBC Radio, MDR (Germany) and the BBC (U.K). She has also recorded works for CBC Records and the Naxos label.
A sought-after private teacher, Jennie was the resident vocal coach for the Toronto production of the musical Billy Elliot where she worked with the young actors in the roles of Billy and Micheal, as well as adult actors in the roles of Dad and Tony. She is also an experienced vocal adjudicator in Kiwanis and Rotary Music Festivals. As a guest artist Jennie has enjoyed working with young singers in a masterclass setting at the Claude Watson School for the Arts in Toronto and Mount Allison University in New Brunswick.
