Dear Band Directors,
Here’s a great way to start off your year! At Western University, we are offering a professional development session on “Improving Your Single Reed Sections” with Dr. Amy Griffiths, saxophone professor at Columbus State University (Georgia, USA), and myself, Dr. Jana Starling, clarinet professor at Western.
We’ve all heard “why do my clarinetists sounds so shrill when they play high?”, “how can my saxophonists sound warmer and play more in tune?”,“how can I fix unwanted articulation habits?” or “what books can I recommend to help improve their technique?”. During this session we will offer methods and exercises to help improve the playing fundamentals of your clarinetists and saxophonists in the band or jazz setting. As well, we will examine pedagogical concepts, prioritize playing goals, and answer any of your questions from reeds and equipment to studies and repertoire.
