Wilfrid Jury Archaeology Day
Saturday, July 28th, 2012

The Annual Wilfrid Jury Archaeology Day was held Saturday, July 28th. This year featured many new experiences for visitors and aspiring archaeologists. Visitors of all ages learned to make grids and participated in a simulated archaeological dig. Participants interacted with professional archaeologists and participated in a unique demonstration on archaeological flotation and the archaeology of plants. A flint knapper was on site to demonstrate his skills and visitors even tried their hand at primitive firemaking.

The Museum would like to thank all of its volunteers,
workstudy students, and workshop facilitators:

Darcy Fallon, Rudy Fecteau, and Andy Tonkin.

Lawson artifacts

The Lawson Site:
Heritage and Archaeology Through the Decades
Everyone is welcome to our grand opening and reception of our new exhibit on
August 8th at 5pm.
The exhibit will feature artifacts found on the Lawson Site and information about the life of the Neutral Iroquois who lived in "London's First Village".

Did you know?
Prior to archaeological excavations in the 1920s, the land of what is now the Lawson Site used to be the property of Richard Shaw-Wood. He oversaw the construction of a concrete mansion in the 1870s known as the Woodholme Manor.
The land was then purchased by Ray Lawson who gave permission and support for archaeologist William J. Wintemberg to excavate the site. Three generations of the Lawson Family have ensured the preservation and restoration of this historically important site.
