General Tour

Students explore how changes in the climate and environment affected the culture and technology of the Ontario’s First Nations.

1.5 hrs: Includes hands-on artifact activity

$4.25/student

* This tour is already included in all half day and full day programs and does not have to be booked separately.

 First Nations’ Colours

Discover Ontario’s First Nations’ by exploring the colours of the rainbow, through legends, science and art.    

Half day: Includes rainbow bracelet craft

Full day: Students will also make and use their own natural colour dyes.

Grade 2 

First Nations’ Traditions

Discover Ontario’s First Nations’ history, culture and traditions.

Half day only: Students will also make a clay pot using traditional methods.

Grade 3

First Nations’ Yesterday & Today

Explore First Nations traditional life and tools, and compare these to our modern day examples.

Half day: Includes choice of traditional clay pot or corn husk doll craft.

Full day: Students will also build a diorama reflecting their visit and learn about First Nations inventions and the Pioneers.

Grade 5

Early Civilizations - Surprising Similarities

Uncover the archaeology of early civilizations around the world, comparing cultures found in North & South America, Africa, Europe and Asia through hands-on activities.

Half day: Includes “Pottery of the World’ craft.

Full day: also Includes world creation stories, traditional weaving craft and more!

Grade  5-8

 Archaeology in Ontario

Students will journey back in time to explore the history of Ontario’s First Nations People through hands-on exploration of artifacts and archaeological tools.

Half day: Includes an exploration of math within archaeology

Full day:  students will also create their own traditional pottery, explore underwater archaeology and learn how archaeology is used to understand our Lawson archaeological site.

Grade 6

First Nations & European Relations in the Fur Trade

Discover the history of First Nations peoples before and after contact with Europeans. Students will explore how contact affected Canada’s First Nations peoples.

Half day: Includes interactive Fur Trade activity. 

Full day: Students will also learn about traditional beliefs and create a medicine pouch, play traditional games & make a traditional craft.

Ontario’s First Nations & the Jesuits

The French Jesuit missionaries created some of the first written records of  Ontario’s First   Nations people. Students will learn how to think critically about historical records.

Half day: Includes interactive quill and ink writing activity

Full day: Includes interactive quill and ink writing activity, fur trade activity and First Nations inventions.

 Patterns & Indigenous Environments

This program will introduce students to how the natural environment and historical events have effected patterns in human settlement and  migration in Canada.

Half day only: Includes an interactive map making activity.

Grade  7

 First Nations’ & the War of 1812 add-on

The War of 1812 was a defining event in Canada’s history; with it’s 200th anniversary we are offering this special 30 mins. presentation  exploring the role Canada’s First Nations played.

30mins:  Can be added on to our General Tour  ($1/student), substituted in another program, or as part of an outreach program.

Outreach Programming

Have us come to you! Outreach programs focusing on the First Nations of Ontario and Ontario Archaeology are available, or you can work with us to design your own program.

1.5 hour programs for up to 30 students: $100 + mileage. Please contact for more information.

 

 

Special Day programming

Archaeologist for a Day  -  Elementary  ($10.00)

Full day only, available approx. April-October

Maximum of 50 students

Discover what it’s like to be an archaeologist! Students will learn archaeological methods and will participate in an excavation. This program will also include handling real artifacts, gallery and site tour and more! Program runs rain or shine.

Note: Simulated archaeological excavation $10/student (4 hrs)

Life in a Longhouse - $10

(Full day only, available year round)

Maximum of 35 students

This hands-on program will explore the everyday life of the 16th century Attawandaron who lived in the Lawson Village.  Students will learn and prepare samples of traditional foods, such as Three Sisters soup and   bannock, play traditional games, and more!

$10/student (4 hrs.)
