Where to begin?
First year students should take Anthropology 027a/b (Introduction to Linguistics) followed by Linguistics 028b (Introduction to Language) in order to be eligible for admission to any linguistic program. For students interested in Linguistics courses as engaging electives Linguistics 028 a/b is NOT a prerequisite but is STRONGLY recommended
Students are also encouraged to register for a French language course and to continue to at least French 020E/021 level. This will enable you to take advantage of upper year linguistics offerings taught in French (beginning with French 295). Students in French have the opportunity to study French and Linguistics as a Major or an Honors Specialization.
Students who have not taken Anthropology 027a/b (Introduction to Linguistics) in their first year should take Linguistics 288a/b (Introductory General Linguistics) as well as Linguistics 028b.
