Octel Voice Mail Instructions
PLACE A CALL
- Lift handset (primary line is selected); or press extension key to select line.
- Dial 5-digit extension (internal) or
- Dial 9 + telephone number (external)
ANSWER A CALL
- Lift handset, (primary line is selected.)
- If call is on secondary line, press line key with flashing arrow.
TERMINATE A CALL
- Press Rls (release key) or replace handset
CALL
DISPLAY
Shows the time, date, call information and guides you while using the digital
features. The lower line of the display is used to display key instructions.
VOLUME BAR
Controls the volume of the handset, speaker, and ringer.
- Press <<< to decrease volume.
- Press >>> to increase volume.
HOLD A
CALL
Allows you to place an active call on hold.
To Activate
- Press Hold (arrow flashes beside the held line)
- Replace handset.
To Return to held call:
- Lift handset.
- Press the line key with the flashing arrow.
LAST
NUMBER REDIAL
Allows you to automatically redial the last number you dialed.
- Lift handset (primary line is selected)or press extension key to select line
- Press # #
- Number is automatically dialed
TRANSFER
Allows you to send a call to another phone and establish three way conferencing.
CALL
FORWARD
Allows users to reroute incoming calls to Voice Mail or an alternate back-up
answering position.
To Activate
- Without lifting handset.
- Press Forward key. (arrow flashes)
- Dial the number to which calls are to be forwarded.
- Press Forward key again. (solid arrow)
To Cancel:
- Without lifting handset.
- Press Forward key once. (arrow disappears)
To Reactivate to the same number:
- Without lifting handset.
- Press Forward key twice. (solid arrow)
SPEED
CALL
Allows you to use a one-digit code to dial frequently called numbers. You may store
up to 10 numbers.
To Program
- Without lifting the handset, Press Speed Call key.
- Dial one-digit code (0-9) + telephone number + #. (Include 9 for an external
or long distance telephone number)
- Press Speed Call key again.
To Activate:
- Lift handset (primary line is selected) or select any idle directory number key.
- Press Speed Call key (arrow flashes)
- Dial the one-digit code for the number to be called (display shows code &
programmed number.)
AUTO DIAL
Stores one number per Auto Dial key.
MESSAGE
- Lift handset
- Press Message key
- System automatically dials into Voice Mail
Note: Calls will automatically forward to Voice Mail on a
"busy" and a "no answer" situation.

Modify the following display screen options using the volume control bar.

Note: After any programming procedure, press Program to exit and save the new
setting.
HANDSFREE
You can make a call or receive a call without picking up the receiver. Handsfree is
turned on automatically whenever you press an extension key without lifting up the
handset.
To make a Handsfree call
- Press extension key.
- Dial telephone number.
To answer a call using Handsfree feature:
- Press extension key that is ringing.
- Converse through speaker/microphone.
Note: If you pick up handset during a Handsfree call, feature is cancelled and
conversation continues as regular call. To re-establish feature, press the Handsfree key
then hang up the handset.
MICROPHONE MUTE
Used to allow a user with handsfree capability to mute their side of the
conversation from the party at the other end.
OCTEL VOICE MESSAGING
Initial voice mail password is the 5-digit extension number of your telephone.
The Voice Mail system will prompt you to change this password on your initial logon.
LOGGING
ONTO THE SYSTEM
1. From your on campus phone:
- Dial the internal system number, 83000 or press MESSAGE key
- Enter your personal password.
2. From another on-campus phone:
- Dial the internal system number 83000
- Press * to indicate that you have a mailbox on the system.
- Enter you 5 digit mailbox number.
- Enter your personal password.
3. From off campus / remote:
- Dial 519 661-3000.
- Press # to indicate you have a mailbox on the system.
- Enter 5-digit mailbox number.
- Enter your personal password.
RECORDING A GREETING
To record a personal greeting:
From main menu
- press 4 to select personal options.
- Press 3 to select greetings.
- Press 1 for personal greetings.
- Press 2 to record a personal greeting.
Press 1 to record a greeting that informs callers that you are away from your
phone.
Or ...
Press 2 to record a greeting that informs callers that you are on the phone.
- Record the greeting.
- Press # when finished recording.
RECORDING YOUR NAME
To record your name:
From main menu
- Press 4 to select personal options.
- Press 3 to select greetings.
- Press 3 to select Record Your Name.
- Record your first and last name.
- Press # when finished recording.
CHANGING YOUR PASSWORD
To change your personal password:
From main menu
- Press 4 to select personal options.
- Press 2 for administrative options.
- Press 1 to select password.
- Press 1 to change your personal password.
- Enter a password containing 4 to 15 digits.
- When finished entering password press #.
LISTENING
TO YOUR MESSAGES
To listen to your messages:
From main menu
- Press 1 to listen to messages.
- Press 7 to delete message or 9 to save it
- - Press 1 - to rewind
- - Press 3 - to fast forward
- - Press # - to skip to next message
