Ramp Application Resync

While Ramp is set up to automatically check for and download the latest version on start up, in rare cases, you might get an error message on logon complaining your version is out of sync with server. One example where this could happen is when you got a newer version of java but the old short cut is still governed by the older version of java on some operating systems. You could correct this by clearing the java cache. The following steps apply to Windows XP:

Clearing Ramp Client from Cache:

  • Click start--> Control Panel (if your default is category view, switch it to classic view)
  • Double-click Java to bring up the Java Control Panel
  • Under General Tab, select View
  • Select Applications in the Show dropdown list at the top
  • Find and highlight "Web Start Ramp Client" in the list of applications
  • Right-click and select Delete or select 'x' at top of screen
  • If the ramp short cut on your desktop doesn't disappear, delete it manually
  • Click on the link "Ramp" above, a new download should take place and you will be prompted to set up a new shortcut

Clearing ALL Java Web Start Applications from Cache:

  • Click start--> Control Panel (if your default is category view, switch it to classic view)
  • Double click java to bring up the Java Control Panel
  • Under General Tab, Temporary internet files section, click Settings
  • Select Delete Files
  • Click ok
  • You have cleaned the cache! If the ramp short cut on your desktop doesn't disappear, delete it manually
  • Click on the link "Ramp" above, a new download should take place and you will be prompted to set up a new shortcut

Check For Hung JavaWebStart Applications

  • Hung JavaWebStart tasks can cause problems, does not happen often but can be confusing
  • Use the task manager or operating system function kill any javaw.exe tasks
  • Or reboot
