Agreement Renewal

The University has renewed our license for virus protection with Trend Micro for another three years, ending August 31, 2007. The Trend Antivirus software suite has been key in our ability to combat the daily threats of file-based and network viruses. The agreement was negotiated to include the University of Western Ontario, Brescia University College, Huron University College, King’s University College, Westminster College, and the John P. Robarts Research Institute.

This agreement pertains to the following:

  1. Corporate & Research desktops connected to the University Network

Trend’s Officescan software provides ongoing protection for Windows-based PCs. These PCs need to be linked to an “update source” called an Information Server in order to receive ongoing updates. These updates protect against the daily threats of file-based and network viruses as
well as detection of many forms of malware and spyware. Some individual faculties and units maintain their own Information Servers for these updates. ITS offers a centrally managed Information Server for our direct clients and for faculty and staff who do not have a local server. To obtain OfficeScan for your UWO desktop, you should speak to your department’s System Administrator or go to

  2. Corporate & Research servers connected to the University Network

Trend’s OfficeSan software provides virus protection for Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Server 2003, and Windows 2000 Servers. Again, these servers need to link to an Information Server to receive ongoing updates. For those units not running their own Information Server, please contact the ITS Help Desk by calling ext.83800 or e-mailing to arrange access to this software.
