Client compatible with Ubuntu 12.04 through 13.10


Open a terminal window

Open your apt sources file for editing
Command: sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Scroll down and remove the comments in front of these two lines

deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu precise partner
deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu precise partner

Exit and save the file
Keystrokes: ctrl+X, Y, enter

Update the software packages list
Command: sudo apt-get update

Install rdesktop using apt-get
Command: sudo apt-get install rdesktop

Install the vmware view client using apt-get
Command: sudo apt-get install vmware-view-client

When prompted for the download, type Y and hit enter

Note: If the isntall gives you an error about dependencies, try downloading the libudev0_175-0ubuntu19_i386.deb from the downloads section and installing it with dpkg
Command: dpkg -i ~/Downloads/libudev0_175-0ubuntu19_i386.deb (path may be different depending on where you downloaded the file to)

If you would like your linux client's home folder available in MyVLab, download the enable_client_folder.sh script in the Downloads section above and run it with sudo
Command: sudo sh ~/downloads/enable_client_folder.sh (path is relative depending on where you put the script)

Launch the VMware View Client from a search or launch in /usr/bin/vmware-view from a file explorer window

Agree to the EULA

accept the eula

For View Connection Server enter myvlab.vdi.uwo.ca and click connect

enter the server url

Enter your Western ID and password

login with your username and password

At this step you can set your window size for your session, default is "Full Screen - This Monitor".

select your window size

With your window size selected, double click on the MyVLab desktop Icon

You will be entered into your MyVLab session.
