Question:  I get an error message that says "A X509 version 3 certificate used for signing in the certificate chain does not contain a basic constraints extension and so is not valid for signing" when I try to log into MyVLab. What do I do to fix this?

Answer:
To fix this, simply follow these instructions:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Open Internet Options. 
  3. Click on the Content tab.
  4. Click on the Certificates button.
  5. In the new Certificates window, select the Intermediate Certification Authorities tab.
  6. Select and delete all of the expired Thawte certificates.
  7. Log into MyVLab again.

When I attempt to log into MyVLab, I cannot get past the screen that says "Sun Secure Global Desktop Loading....". How can I fix this?

Answer:
The common cause for this issue is either an older version of Java is installed or Java is not installed at all. 

Download Java Version 6

Also, Verify that https://ssgd.uwo.ca is in the trusted sites list.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Open Internet Options.
  3. Click on the Security tab.
  4. Under 'select a zone to view or change security settings', click to highlight "trusted sites".
  5. Click on the Sites button.
  6. Type https://ssgd.uwo.ca with in the "Add this website to the zone:"
  7. Click Add and then close windows.
  8. Restart your web browser.

 


Question:
When I attempt to log into MyVLab on my Mac, I get the message "Sun Secure Global Desktop client for Mac OS X can't connect to the X11 server. Cannot connect to display :0.0". How can I fix this?

Answer:
In order to be able to use MyVLab on a Mac, you will need to be running Mac OSX and have X11 installed. To install X11:

  1. Place the Install DVD that came with your system into the disc drive and open it.
  2. Scroll down to "Optional Installs" and open it.
  3. Keep clicking Continue until you get to the pane "Custom Install on "Macintosh HD"".
  4. Press the arrow beside "Applications" so you get a list of them.
  5. Select X11.
  6. Keep pressing Continue until the install is finished.
  7. Log into MyVLab again.

 


Question:
When I try to launch an application within MyVLab, I recieve the following message "You are not Authorized to launch this program" How can I fix this?

Answer:
There are application license restrictions based on which faculty and or courses you attend. The applications that are restricted are listed below:

  1. Sigmaplot 10
  2. The Food Processor
