Genlabs Frequently Asked Questions
All active Western students have accounts to use the Genlabs. Faculty who instruct in the labs may need to synchronize their passwords to gain current access.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Windows logon screen
Enter your Western email account name in the Name: field
Enter your Western email password in the Password field
Make sure the 'Log on to' field says UWO
Click on the Start button
Choose logoff <your username>
Click Yes to acknowledge that you really do want to log off
Write down the error messages, if any, so the Help staff can better assist you.
Call the ITS Help Desk at ext 83800, or visit the Front Counter (SSB4100), during their opening hours of 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
Send an e-mail to the Help Desk at helpdesk@uwo.ca
Send an e-mail to the system administrator at genlabs@uwo.ca
Select Start, Programs, "Map W to Panther".
Enter your Western email password at the prompt.
This will create a drive W: mapping to your personal file space which you can use like any Windows drive.
You can save your files to:
- your personal file space. Use the directions above to make an easily accessed drive map to this area.
- a floppy disk
- a USB memory stick which you can plug into the USB port on the front of the PC.
- the workstation d: drive. This is a local drive on each computer that you can use for temporary storage of files. All users of the computer have equal access to this drive, so you do not want to leave your files there.
Note: Do
not save files to the c: drive. They will be deleted as you log off the machine.

All Western staff and faculty have accounts which can access the Genlabs system. The userid is the same as your Western email userid. You may have to synchronize your password before you can log onto a Genlabs system. A new instructor may obtain an orientation session to the labs by contacting the Genlabs System Administrator at genlabs@uwo.ca.
