How Do I ... Forward With Full Email Headers
Information
Below are instructions on how to forward a message with the full headers for a variety of email programs. This information is needed to allow us to investigate email delivery issue further.
Western's Webmail
- Highlight the message and select the forward button
- From the tabbed message view enter the appropriate email address in the To field
- Select Send
Note: Please do not forward the message using the option, Inline .
Thunderbird
From the menu at top
- Select View... Headers... All
- Navigate to and highlight the message in question
- Select the Forward button.
- Enter "postmaster@uwo.ca" into the To: field.

Send the message.
Note: Once you have successfully forwarded the message with full headers be sure to switch back to 'normal headers by selecting View... Headers... Normal.
Outlook 2010
- Double-click on the e-mail message to open it in its own window.
- From the Message tab, Locate the group called Tags.
- Select the arrow in the bottom right hand corner of the group.
- A box will appear with the internet header information on the lower portion.
- Copy the Internet headers: into memory:
- Click anywhere in the Internet headers: box.
- Press Ctrl-A
- Press Ctrl-C
- Open a new message composition window.
- Select New from the menu at the top of Outlook.
- Enter "postmaster@uwo.ca" into the To: field.
- Paste the complete message in the body of the new message.
- Click your mouse in the body of the message (does not matter where).
- Press Ctrl-V.
- Send the message.
Outlook 2007
- Double-click on the e-mail message to open it in its own window.
- From the Options dialog box
- Select the arrow in the bottom right hand corner

Copy the Internet headers: into memory:
- Click anywhere in the Internet headers: box.
- Press Ctrl-A
- Press Ctrl-C

Open a new message composition window.
- Select New from the menu at the top of Outlook.
- Enter "postmaster@uwo.ca" into the To: field.

- Press Ctrl-V.
- Send the message.
Outlook 2003
- Double-click on the e-mail message to open it in its own window.
- Click the View menu.
- Click on Options...

Mac OSX Mail
- Select the message you want the full headers for.
- In the menu bar click 'View'.
- Go down the list and select 'Message', 'Long Headers'.
- Click on the message to highlight it, and then click on the Forward button.
- Enter "postmaster@uwo.ca" into the To: field.
- Send the message.
Gmail
- Log in to Gmail.
- Open the message you'd like to view headers for.
- Click the down arrow next to Reply, at the top-right of the message pane.
- Select Show original.
- Copy the entire content and paste into a new message
- Enter "postmaster@uwo.ca" into the To: field.
- Send the message.
Hotmail
- Log in to Hotmail.
- Highlight the message you'd like to view headers for.
- Right-click the message in the message list
- Select View message source.
- Copy the entire content and paste into a new message
- Enter "postmaster@uwo.ca" into the To: field.
- Send the message.
Yahoo
- Log in to Yahoo.
- Highlight the message you'd like to view headers for.
- Right-click the message in the message list
- Select View Full Headers
- Copy the entire content and paste into a new message
- Enter "postmaster@uwo.ca" into the To: field.
- Send the message.
