How Do I ... Install the Outlook Connector

Introduction
The Oracle (SUN) Java Outlook Connector (SJOC) software synchronizes your local Outlook calendar, contact and tasks with the Western calendar server, Convergence. This allows an individual limited Outlook funtionality while making their calendar accessible to the university community. This software is only supported for versions of Outlook 2003 and 2007.
Due to a disconnect in development paths between Microsoft and Oracle (SUN) frequent upgrades to the Outlook Connector are needed e.g. As MS releases automatic updates it will often require Oracle to release a new version of the connector in order to update related code involved with the synchronization features.
The current version is 7.3.120.3
Procedure
In an attempt to minimize loss of customized Outlook client configuration and local content there are two options available for installation;
These upgrade instructions are for those running a version of 7.3*, if upgrading from a version prior to this e.g. 7.2* please contact connector-support@uwo.ca for assistance.
Pre Installation CheckList
- Check the version number you are running.
Select Help... About Sun Java System Connector for Microsof Outlook

Select Start... Control Panel
Select Add/Remove Programs
Scroll through the list of applications and highlight Sun Java System Connector
Select Click here for support information

If it isn't 7.3.120.3 then continue with the upgrade, otherwise skip forward to the Post installation Checklist
- Create backups of Outlook content and settings, refer to MS article for specific details.
Installation
- Download the SJOC Installation file, if running Vista or Windows 7 don't forget to right click and run as Admin.
Note: In an attempt to audit the users of this application we have password protected the download of the executable.

- Double click the exe file from above to start the installation wizard

- Click Next

- Click Exit/Finish

Post Installation CheckList
You will need to make the following changes effective May 25, 2012 to eliminate dependancies of our Calendar Server (6):
- Select Start… Control Panel… Mail
- Select Show Profiles…

- Ensure the SJOC profile is highlighted and select Properties

- Select E-mail Accounts

- Select Change

- From the Oracle... Suite tab
- Change the Calendar server
- From: cal.uwo.ca
- To: calendar.uwo.ca
- Select the Calendar tab
- Enter the Calendar Server path: davserver/wcap

- Select Apply… OK... Finish
Launch Outlook
- Select Yes to the following prompt

- Place a checkmark in the box and select Yes to the following prompt

Pre Installation CheckList
- You must have administrative rights on the computer in order to install the Outlook Connector. If you don't have administrative rights to your system you will need to contact your system administrator.
- Create backups of Outlook content and settings, refer to MS article for specific details.
- Outlook must be the default email client in order to install the Outlook Connector.
Open Control Panel
Select Network & Internet Connections
Select Internet Options
Select Programs
From Email drop down menu
Select Microsoft Office Outlook.
Select OK
Installation
- Download the SJOC Installation file, if running Vista or Windows 7 don't forget to right click and run as Admin.
Note: In an attempt to audit the users of this application we have password protected the download of the executable using UWO authentication .

- Double click the exe file from above to start the installation wizard

- Click Next

- Enter User Information and click Next
- Click Exit
