Introduction

This procedure will describe how to install the Thunderbird extension Lightning, a proprietary piece of software which happens to come with built in support of the Sun Java Calendar Server. This provides another option to in addition to Western's Calendar Interface http://mail.uwo.ca, also known as Convergence and the Sun Java Outlook Connector (SJOC).

Resource calendars currently cannot be added/invited to events like you do when using Western's Calendar System. Therefore you will need to follow up with your department for a comprehensive list of resource calendars, at which point you will need to import or manually create them into your Personal Address book.

Download Add-on

• Go to http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/lightning/download.html to get information on and download the latest release.
• Right-click and select Save Link As.../Save Target As...

Install Add-on

• From Mozilla Thunderbird
• Click Tools, Add-ons
• Click Install
• Browse to save location, highlight file and click Open
• Click Install
• Restart Thunderbird

Configure JES Calendar

• Select File... New... Calendar
• Select the radial button On the Network ... Continue
  

• Select the radial button CalDAV
• In the Location field
• Enter the URL https://calendar.uwo.ca/davserver/dav/home/userid@uwo.ca/calendar/  

• Select Continue

• Enter a "friendly name" for your calendar
• Pick a colour for your events
• Select Continue
  

• Enter your username and password

• Select Done

• Select the calendar icon in the top right hand corner in order to access your events.
