Changes to Email Authentication Policy
ITS is taking steps to improve the security of Western's email system. Some wireless and off-campus clients are currently configured to send email through Western's mail servers without username+password authentication. We will soon be requiring authentication for all wireless and off-campus clients.
We have identified email messages sent from your email address in the past month which will be affected by this change. In order to maintain your ability to send email, a minor configuration change may be required to your email client(s). Email clients must be configured such that the outbound SMTP server (smtp.uwo.ca) uses: SSL or TLS encryption; and username+password authentication.
If you neglect to make this change, your ability to receive and read email will not be affected, however you may be unable to send mail until your client is reconfigured.
