Communicating with International Graduate Students - A Workshop for Graduate Assistants

Host: Teaching Support Centre
Date: Tuesday, november 12
Time: 9-11 am
Location: Teaching Support Centre Room 121

Event Description:

Graduate assistants are often the first staff members who welcome new graduate students to Western.  Throughout the year, graduate assistants mentor and advise students from around the world, explain program policies and support students as they progress towards their degree.   Join us to discuss strategies for mentoring and communicating with international graduate students.  During the session, we will watch a video case study and discuss cultural differences in communication style that may impact your daily interaction with students.  We will share a variety of communication strategies that colleagues across campus have found useful in mentoring international grad students in their research and teaching, and discuss the factors that may facilitate the transition of new students to the culture of Western.

Refreshments will be served.
