Lancaster University is one of Britain's top universities. The Times Good University Guide (2004) calls Lancaster "among the top dozen universities for research and in the top 20 for teaching". The University's attractive, safe parkland main campus is on the outskirts of the historic city of Lancaster and within easy reach of the Lake District National Park. The main site of Lancaster University is located at Bailrigg, on the southern outskirts of the city of Lancaster and about three miles from the city centre. On a clear day the view extends north to the Lakeland fells and west across Morecambe Bay.
