You must answer all the questions on the application form unless indicated otherwise. Download and fill out the application form on a computer. You also have the option of saving your form and completing it later.
Complete all sections. If a section does not apply to you, write “Not Applicable” or “NA”, except for your name (last name and given name[s]).
If you need more space for any section, print out an additional page of the form containing the appropriate section, complete it and submit it along with your application.
"Once the application is completed, click on the “Validate” button located at the top or bottom of the form. This will generate a 2D barcode page (page 5 of 5). If this application form is completed on a computer and printed, you must place the barcode page on the top of each individual application package before submitting the application.1
If you are applying online do not print your application form to sign it. Instead of a handwritten signature, you will be asked for an electronic signature after you upload your application form and all required supporting documents.
Your family members who also wish to visit Canada must apply by filling out their own temporary residence form (Temporary Resident Visa, study permit or work permit). However, you may send all family member application forms in the same envelope with only one payment receipt for the total amount.
If you are 18 years of age or older, sign and date in the boxes provided at the bottom of the page. If you are less than 18 years of age, your form must be signed by one of your parents or a legal guardian.
Before mailing your application, make a photocopy of your application, along with the documentation that you will be sending (including the page of your passport showing the passport number and expiry date), to keep for your records.
When mailing your application, it is recommended that you use a courier service, such as Xpresspost in Canada, to ensure that it will arrive faster, to confirm that they received your application, and to have a record that the application was sent. This is also a safer method of sending your passport (if applicable).
If you are applying for a TRV through the Case Processing Centre - Ottawa:
Do NOT send your original Study Permit with your application - you only need to send a photocopy of your Study Permit.2
It is also recommended that you include a pre-paid Xpresspost–National envelope with your application. If you do not send a prepaid Xpresspost envelope, CIC will return your passport by regular mail. CIC will only return your passport through regular mail or a prepaid Xpresspost envelope. (If you include a prepaid envelope from a private courier company, we will not use it.)3
