Immigration Information and Assistance

The International and Exchange Student Centre offers the following services to assist you with immigration-related matters:

Step 1: General Information about Permits and Visas

For information about Study Permits, Work Permits, Visas, and Permanent Residency applications, please see Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s website.The International and Exchange Student Centre also provides general information online.

General information handouts are also available on topics such as: CIC online application procedures, inviting relatives and friends to visit Canada, applying for a U.S. visitor visa, applying for a Social Insurance Number, etc. To pick up a handout, visit the IESC Reception Desk.

Step 2: Self-Help Binders

Self-help binders provide step-by-step instructions about applying for the following permits and visas:

  • Study Permit extensions within Canada
  • Temporary Resident Visas
  • Co-op Work Permits
  • Post-Graduation Work Permits

Binders can be signed out at the IESC during office hours. (Binders are for use in the Centre and cannot be removed). A desktop computer and scanner are also available in the Centre, and you are welcome to bring your own laptop to work independently on applications.

Step 3: Drop-In Help

Drop-in help times are offered by the IESC to provide general immigration information and referrals. IESC staff can assist you in finding the information you are looking for and can refer you to websites and other immigration resources and services. Drop-in times are for short questions (approximately 10 minutes per student). Students who need additional assistance will be referred to book an appointment.

Step 4: Workshops

The IESC holds regular workshops on the application procedures for:

  • Study Permits
  • Temporary Resident Visas
  • Post-Graduation Work Permits

Step 5: Immigration Appointments

Immigration appointments are available by referral only.

To obtain a referral for an appointment:

  • attend a drop-in time at the IESC;
  • a workshop at the IESC;
  • call 519-661-2111 ext. 85908; or
  • visit the IESC
    (2nd floor, International and Graduate Affairs Building).

The IESC continues to offer individual appointments and email advising for cultural transitions, academic or personal concerns, university policies and procedures, employment and government regulations, campus and community information, financial concerns, as well as U.S. visitor visas.
