Citizens from certain countries are required to provide biometrics (photograph and finger print) within 30 days of applying for a visitor (temporary resident) visa, study permit or work permit for Canada. However, biometrics are not required if you are “already in Canada and are eligible to apply for a visitor (temporary resident) visa, study permit or work permit to an office in Canada.”1
If you are currently in Canada but are not eligible to submit your application to an office inside Canada, the regulations on biometrics apply to you. As well, if you are eligible to submit your application to an office in Canada but choose to apply in your home country or another country, the regulations on biometrics will apply to you.
