Western offers both traditional-style (dormitory) as well as suite-style residences. For descriptions, rates, pictures and floors plans please visit the Residences at Western website.
If you are a single student, without children, coming directly from high school, and receive an offer of full-time, first-year admission to Western's main campus by mid-May, then a place in residence is guaranteed. Housing will hold a place in residence for you, provided that you respond to the residence offer and pay the deposit fee by deadline date on your offer of residence.
Students live in double rooms and share common washrooms with members of their floor. Most first-year students are placed in double rooms with a roommate. The roommate pairing process considers lifestyle and personal preferences.
Students have their own room, but share cooking facilities, a bathroom, and a common area with two or three other students. Students look after more of their own domestic responsibilities and have the option of cooking some of their own meals. Suite-style residences are slightly more expensive.
Students live in a double room with a semi-private washroom. They offer the privacy of a suite-style residence and the strong sense of belonging of a traditional-style residence.
NOTE: First-year students who have not received confirmation of an on-campus residence room/apartment by August 1, it is extremely unlikely you will be admitted into residence in September, and are advised to look for off-campus housing.
To find and how and when to pay your residence fees, visit the Residence at Western's fees page.
Move-in day for all students in residence will be on September 3 & 4, 2017, however international and exchange students will have the option to move in as early as Thursday, August 31, 2017 (at no additional charge for room accommodations). This will allow you time to settle in and participate in orientation and the International Student Residence Welcome Day which will be on Saturday, September 2, 2017. This welcome day will provide important information about how to be successful living in residence, a free lunch, and give you a chance to go to local supermarkets to get any items to help make your new home more comfortable. If interested, please click here for more information.
If you will be staying in an on-campus residence, do not plan to arrive at the residence before the scheduled move-in day for international and exchange students.
Only under some circumstances (e.g., it is impossible to make alternate travel arrangements) will residences allow you to move in before your scheduled move-in day. Should you need to move in early, you need to submit an online early arrival request via myHousing by August 1, 2017. Should your request be granted, there will be an additional $50 charge for each extra day of accommodation.
Please note: Residence staff are not in place and dining halls are not open before move-in day.
Brescia, Huron and King's University Colleges have residences as well. While students at the affiliated colleges receive first priority, main campus students may also apply to live in one of the affiliate residences, if rooms are still available. For more information please contact the colleges directly.
